Five centuries ago, Tyler had successfully broken the sire bond for the girl he was in love with. He changed multiple times until it was virtually painless. It took a long time and when he got back, he got his girl. Except it didn’t last long. The two have had a rocky relationship, always on again off again and hot and cold with each other. The two are still very much in love, despite what feels like constant fighting but Tyler’s slowly getting fed up with it all. He’s not exactly sure he can deal with an eternity of this even if he loves her dearly.
He’s super reluctant to come back to Mystic Falls. It was more of Caroline’s persuasion since the two had just recently gotten on again in their relationship. Personally, he’d rather focus on them for a while. He’s going to protect Callie as best as he can but his whole heart isn’t into it. He still hates Klaus very much, in almost the same way that Stefan did after his compulsion was dropped. He knows that there was something between Caroline and Klaus, even if his girl won’t admit it to herself. He’s much more into getting his revenge from Klaus’ doings to him then he is with particularly helping the new doppelganger.
On the same vein, he and Rebekah are still weirdly close. He hates all the Originals besides her. It’s genuine, even if he can see the way she likes to piss of Caroline when it comes to him still— they really talk. He considers her his best friend, considering he’s never really fit in with the Salvatores nor as he liked them very much. If he’s stuck with a friend for eternity, the only immortal he’d be able to stand aside from Caroline is Rebekah. He makes a quick friend in Charlie Brooks, which brings him closer to the doppelganger, which he supposes is a good thing.
